HAYWARD, Wis. — RINO Jessi Ebben’s new attack ad calls Michael Alfonso a “carpetbagger” with no job. Both claims are false, and Ebben—a two-time congressional candidate who only just moved into the 7th District herself—doesn’t get to lecture anyone about carpetbagging.

It’s no coincidence. The latest attack ad from our Republican opponents is being bankrolled by an anti-Trump dark money PAC. This same PAC opposed President Trump and spent money against him in 2016. Wisconsin voters deserve to know who is really funding these smears—and why.

THE FACTS:

The facts her dark money minions ignored: Michael Alfonso grew up in Land O’Lakes, in the heart of the 7th District, before his family moved to Wausau, where he met his wife, Evita, in middle school. He graduated from Newman Catholic High School in Wausau. He started working at age 14 and paid his own way through the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Those are FACTS that Ebben can’t wave away—it’s a record any voter in the Northwoods can check for themselves.

“Jessi Ebben’s ad is downright dishonest—she’s calling Michael a carpetbagger with no job when he grew up in this district, went to high school in this district, and worked since he was 14 years old to pay his own way through UW-Madison,”said Alfonso Campaign Manager William Blathras. “Meanwhile, Ebben is a Minnesotan who moved into the 7th District only recently, after losing a Republican primary to Trump-endorsed Derrick Van Orden in the 3rd District six years ago. If anyone should be careful about throwing around the word ‘carpetbagger,’ it’s her.”

Unfortunately for Ebben, her credibility problem doesn’t stop there. She has admitted—in her own words–that she signed the 2012 petition to recall Governor Scott Walker during the fight over Act 10, the defining conservative reform of a generation in Wisconsin. Not one other Republican in this race signed it because what conservative would oppose sweeping reform that has saved Wisconsin taxpayers BILLIONS.

When you’ve lost a primary, moved into a new district, and signed a petition to recall a conservative icon, maybe attack ads aren’t your strongest play. Wisconsin voters will see through this Wisconsin voters will see through this—no matter which anti-Trump opponent is funding it. Michael has lived the life he says he’s lived. Our opponents are the ones who need to explain their own records—not invent one for Michael Alfonso..

Michael Alfonso, the Trump-endorsed candidate for Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, spent time today with farmers at Wisconsin Farm Technology Days, hosted at a fifth-generation family farm in Stratford.
